What Are Music Recreation Programs?
Music Recreation Programs are fun, accessible, music-based programs that are designed to meet the needs and interests of the participant(s) without being goal-driven. The purpose of these programs is to help individuals learn and grow in an enjoyable, supportive, musical environment; ultimately, improving quality of life and promoting overall health/well-being. These programs do not require an assessment and do not include treatment goals, session analysis, or reports. At Evergreen Therapy Services, our Music Recreation Programs are facilitated by a certified music therapist (MTA).

For example, Music Recreation Programs may be designed to focus on general skills such as: sensory integration, communication, cognitive skills, physical movement/motor skills, social skills, etc. Programs may also be designed to focus on specific musical skills such as: beat/rhythm, playing instruments, creating music, etc.
In general, Music Recreation Programs may include singing, instrument playing, rhythmic-based activities, composing/songwriting, improvising, receptive music listening, etc. Although classes may involve active music-making, no previous music experience is required to participate in Music Recreation Programs.
